I pretty much walked out of the screen with the exact feel once the movie got over.

Now all those sweethearts saying this is a cult movie and all, please… Stfu!

First learn what cult movie means and then celebrate it. If you knew what that meant you won’t actually celebrate this half cooked movie. While the director had concentrated on developing each of the six main characters slowly he sort of forgot that he had to do the same with the story revolving them. The story sure has flaws and I am not going to discuss that here.

Yes! The characterization alone is enough for me to enjoy the movie. I liked it. But I will not talk about it for weeks together like I did for his previous flicks. I still talk about his short films like a fan girl man. While it is a decent movie, I will not accept that it is tamil cinema’s best, or its the kind of movie that will be discussed years later like we did with aayirathil oruvan. Nope… Nah huh…

Three guys: the depressed drunkard film director with an unreleased movie, the hopeless henchman who falls in love with a widow who wanted to have a strictly physical relationship with him, the cool dude brother who is always level headed except when he is drunk and loves the henchman’s wife from day one.

Three women: the so-called independent IT employee who marries the guy she loves but does not have the energy to put up with him or leave him for a long time, the artist who knows what she wants and is misunderstood and doesn’t give a flying fuck about it(my fav character in the entire movie), the small town girl who gets into a loveless marriage and suffers but then does what she feels is right at one point.

The movie revolves around these characters and how they handle their relationships and their lives. The final monologue by S.J.Surya was good until he finally says it’s all the men who bring upon misery to women. Ummm…. I beg to differ. The last confrontation between him and vijay sethupathi would have been different if two women, or one woman was involved instead of two hot heads for guys. Of course women are also hot heads. But they get into complete psycho mode when they do something intuitive. Not something this harsh, but something long lasting that will push the guy to kill himself. Women usually don’t like getting their hands dirty you see.

I didn’t like the generalization put forth. But I think that is what the movie is all about. Generalizations, stereotypes and typical characters….

Or maybe I’m the biased one here… Not sure…

What I’m sure of is that this is an okayish dish presented in the best cutlery to impress the guests and boy it does work.

Spread the love
