A to Z Challenge: U

I vaguely remember one debate show that was aired on a radio in a bus. I was around 10 or 12 years old. But I still remember what the topic was and all. It was headed by Dindugal Leoni and the topic was about Cinema song lyrics being meaningless or meaningful.

One of the speakers said he had decided to end his life and even prepared the rope to hang himself and everything. But just before the moment he pushed away the chair he heard one epic song and decided he should live on to talk about that legacy. That song is the one below.

My mind voice was like “Nee en da appove saagala?”

I mean that song is not a bad song or anything but this dude was talking as if he just got enlightenment or something.

Why I just narrated that story is because this is the first thing that came to my mind when I sat down to write about the Sundar.C classic movie.

Ullathai Allitha

This comedy flick yet another Karthik Goundamani combo never fails to amuse me no matter how many times I have watched it. A film that I first enjoyed so much that we bought the tape to watch it over and over again. We watched it so much that the VCR broke and the tape went pretty bad that it would stuck at every other scene.

No one can ever forget the kidnap negotiation scene.

“Dei kidna naaye…”

That man Goundamani can only pull off such a language and get away with it unscathed.

“Tempo lam vechu kadathirukom. Konjam paathu potu kudunga…”

Unakum Enakum

The movie originally named as Something Something Unakum Enakum had to be renamed because the government put some tax exemption for pure tamil movie names. Although everyone still recognize it as Something Something. The pukka remake from Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana where Siddhu acts as the lead Santhosh.

This movie is again part of my school life because for some reason the girls in my class won’t stop talking about it. Now those were times when my parents were not keen to take us to movie theatres. The previous movie I had watched on big screen was My Dear Kuttichathan. Yes! They never take us to movies. So for this particular film my friends as usual didn’t bother to include me in the group and went. Wanting to be included in conversations I asked to take me to the movie for which I got a blatant No. Took me a couple of days with some fights here and there for my dad to finally let mom and bro accompany me to the theatre.

Chai! Oru padam paaka na patta paadu iruke!

Now that i think about it… Poyum poyum indha padatha paakava ivalo kashta patten?  I still prefer the version with Siddharth in it!
